A donor’s guide to 12A, 80G and CSR-1

If you are thinking of supporting a charity, you will see three registrations mentioned again and again. Here is what each one means, in plain language, and how to check it.

12A: the charity’s own registration

This registration is granted by the Income Tax Department to organisations that work for charitable purposes. It allows the organisation’s income to be treated as exempt, as long as it follows conditions, such as applying its income only to its objects. Kingsequestrian Foundation’s registration number is AAJCK7191G26BL01, valid for tax years 2023-24 to 2027-28.

80G: the donor’s deduction

An 80G approval lets donors claim a deduction for gifts to the organisation, subject to the Income-tax Act and to the donor’s own tax situation. Our approval number is AAJCK7191G26BL02, valid for tax years 2026-27 and 2027-28. Please check with your tax adviser how it applies to you. Our orders were issued under sections 332 and 354 of the Income-tax Act, 2025.

CSR-1: registration for company funding

Companies that fund charitable work through CSR are expected to work with organisations registered with the Registrar of Companies for this purpose. Our CSR registration number is CSR00118078. This registration is only a record that we are registered to undertake CSR activities. It does not endorse any project, and each company decides whether a project fits its own CSR policy.

How to check any charity

  • Ask for the registration numbers, and for the validity period of each.
  • Check that the organisation publishes its accounts and says how funds are used.
  • Look for a way to ask questions or complain.

You can see ours on the Transparency page. To give, see Donate. To partner as a company, see CSR Partners.
