We are the data fiduciary for the data described here, in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Rules made under it.
Personal data we collect, and why
- Enquiries and CSR or partnership messages: your name, email, phone number and message, so that we can reply to you.
- Donations: your name, contact details, address and the amount and reference of your payment, so that we can process your donation, keep our accounts and send you a receipt. Card, UPI and bank details are handled by our payment gateway, CCAvenue, and are not stored by us.
- 80G receipts: your PAN and address, only if you ask for a receipt that you will use to claim a deduction.
- Updates you ask for: your email address, only if you choose to receive our newsletter or updates.
- Programme participation and volunteering: details needed to run the activity safely, collected only with your consent or, for a child or a person with a disability, the consent of the parent or lawful guardian.
- Photographs and videos: used only with written consent. We do not publish a child’s name together with their photograph.
- Website use: technical data such as your device, browser and pages visited, collected through cookies, to keep the site working and, if you agree, to improve it.
We collect only the data we need for each purpose, and we use it only for the purpose you were told about.
Your consent
We ask for your consent separately for each purpose, in plain language. You may withdraw consent at any time by writing to us. Withdrawing is as easy as giving it. After you withdraw, we stop that processing, though we may keep records that the law requires us to keep, such as accounts and tax records.
Children and persons with disabilities
We do not knowingly collect personal data of anyone under 18 without the verifiable consent of a parent or lawful guardian, and the same applies to persons with a disability who have a lawful guardian. We do not track or monitor children, or show them targeted advertising.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site and our work, such as web hosting, payment processing, email and analytics, and only as needed. We share it with authorities when the law requires. CSR partners receive reports with combined figures and not your personal details, unless you have agreed otherwise. Some providers may store data outside India, and we choose providers that protect it.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only as long as the purpose needs, or as long as the law requires, including accounting and tax laws. After that we delete it or anonymise it.
Security and breaches
We use reasonable safeguards such as access controls, backups and encrypted connections. If a personal data breach occurs, we will inform the people affected and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
Your rights
You may ask us for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it, ask us to correct, complete or update it, ask us to erase it, and nominate another person to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to. Write to the contact below and we will verify who you are before acting.
